The Joeys defeated Indonesia 3-2 in a thrilling match in front of a hostile pro-Indonesia crowd in Kuala Lumpur to progress to the semi-finals of the AFC under-16 championships.

Australia dominated the early stages but Indonesia took the lead through Sutan Diego early in the first half.

Daniel Walsh equalised for the Joeys when he headed home a great free-kick cross from Birkan Kirdar.

Two second-half goals, one from left-back Adam Leombruno and another from Noah Botic gave the young Aussies a 3-1 lead.

However, a late goal from Indonesia with less than five minutes of normal time remaining made for some very nervous moments at the end of the match, with goalkeeper Adam Pavlesic making a crucial save to ensure the victory.

The Joeys failed to qualify for the last Under-17 FIFA World Cup, however in 2015 they managed to make the round of 16.
