Australia’s premier domestic motorcycle championship commences this weekend at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, as it celebrates its 35th anniversary season in 2024. Once again, SBS and SBS On Demand will air every round of the 2024 ASBK season.
With an association that dates as far back to the very first season in 1989, SBS will bring you live coverage of all seven rounds across four states over the next nine months, featuring the headline act of Superbikes, the rising talent of Supersport and stars of tomorrow in Supersport 300 and the Oceania Junior Cup.
Phil Harlum and Steve Martin will once again be the voices of ASBK, as they lead the broadcast commentary in their eighth season together. They’ll be joined in 2024 by 2003 World Supersport Champion, Chris Vermulen, who’ll not only host the coverage, but will also provide expert analysis from pit lane.
The 2023 ASBK season culminated in one of the most epic title fights seen in recent memory, as Troy Herfoss and Josh Waters headed into the final round equal on points. But it was Herfoss who claimed a record equalling third Australian title with a dominant performance across the two races, in what was to be Honda’s swansong in the championship as a factory entity.
In 2024, some things remain the same with Yamaha and McMartin Racing Ducati confirming stability with their rider line ups. But the biggest news in recent days is Herfoss joining the factory DesmoSport Ducati team in a development role, bringing with him the No. 1 plate and partnering with incumbent young gun Broc Pearson for the opening round. Herfoss will dovetail his development role with a full time campaign in the prestigious MotoAmerica championship for Indian Motorcycles.
