Contador's a real badass

Alberto Contador may not be made of bionic parts but he sure rides like he does after crashes. We look at some of the key moments that prove the Spaniard is one of the toughest, badass riders around.

1. Giro d'Italia 2015: dislocates shoulder in stage 6

The Spaniard was caught up in a crash in the last 200m of stage 6 at .
"I haven't broken anything but I have suffered a dislocation of the left shoulder. The doctors have recommended I immobilize my left arm during the evening and night," he said.

"I will try to start tomorrow but we have to wait until right before the start to see what happens." 

Contador battled on to win the 2015 Giro d'Italia. 

2. Tour de France 2016: two crashes in two days

At this year's Tour, Contador suffered two crashes in two days, the first two stages. He suffered damage to his right shoulder, elbow and hip and lost time.

He battled on for a week but 100kms from the finish of stage 9, he stopped at the side of the road and got into the team car. He was done. 

"This morning I had a fever. I did not feel good since I crashed on the first day."

3. Tour de France 2014: breaks tibia in crash

During stage 10 of the 2014 Tour de France, Contador took a high speed tumble on a downhill. Blood poured from his right knee, his hip was scraped and jersey torn.

After bandages were applied, Contador sat back down and rallied for a few minutes.

He got back on the bike and rode for another half an hour. 

But ultimately it was too much, the Spaniard stopped and got into the car in tears. 

Later, x-rays would show Contador fractured his right tibia.

4. Tour de France 2015: loses time in a crash

Contador's 2015 Tour de France was as good as over after he crashed on stage 17 of the Tour de France. It saw his time gap to leader Chris Froome increase to six minutes and 40 seconds.

With so much time lost after a crash, Contador could've just phoned it in and go sit on a beach somewhere. But that's just not his style. By Paris, Contador was fifth overall.

5. Vuelta a Espana 2016: crash

Alberto Contador crashed quite badly on stage 7 of the 2016 La Vuelta a Espana. Heavily taped and bandaged, the Spaniard rides on.
