Adelaide sign former San Antonio Spurs guard Paul

The Adelaide 36ers have announced the signing of former NBA player Brandon Paul for the remainder of the NBL21 season.

Every game of the 2020-21 NBL season is LIVE, FREE and in HD via , with select games also live on SBS VICELAND.

The 29-year-old Illinois native started his professional basketball career in 2013 after a standout NCAA career at the University of Illinois where he became only the second player in the program's 115-year history to reach milestones of at least 1500 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, and 100 steals.

Paul went on to play in Europe with teams in Russia, Spain and Turkey before signing with the San Antonio Spurs for the 2017-2018 NBA season going on to play 64 games.

Against the Boston Celtics in October 2017 Paul chalked up 18 points and five rebounds to show his capabilities at the highest level.

In 2019, Paul joined the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in the Chinese Basketball Association, he debuted with 40 points and less than a week later he chalked up a triple-double with 51 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 assists.
EuroLeague team and Greek powerhouse Olympiacos contracted Paul for the 2019-2020 season and following his time there he returned to the United States awaiting the right opportunity.

Brandon Paul is looking forward to joining his new teammates and taking on the challenge ahead.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity and to contributing every way I can with the 36ers. I know quite a few players across the NBL and have heard great things about the league, so I cannot wait to get there and be part of it. Things moved quickly because the fit for myself and the 36ers feels right", Paul said today from his home in Chicago.

General Manager of Basketball, Jeff Van Groningen, said, "Brandon Paul is an elite level athlete with strengths on both sides of the ball that will improve our team. His scoring ability and athleticism on the open floor will resonate with his teammates and our fans. He has considerable international experience, having spent time in the NBA, Euroleague, Asia, and the NBA G-League, and from that he's drawn an understanding of the game that we believe will assist him in making a smooth transition to this strong NBL competition".

With the completion of immigration and travel arrangements required prior to today's announcement, Paul is expected to arrive in late February and the club will announce the date of his first game in due course.
