The lack of good fast bowlers and quality bowling at death overs has often been the Achilles’ heel of the Indian cricket. But, India may have found the solution to this intractable problem now, if Sunday’s T20 match against is anything to go by.
India turned the tables on the visiting English team in the final over of the must-win second T20 International, courtesy some exceptional bowling by 23-year-old Jasprit Bumrah.
England needed just 8 runs from the final over of the match with six wickets still intact. On any other day, the task would be just routine for the Englishmen who were the runners-up in last year’s T20 World Cup, but it was Bumrah’s day.
Jasprit Bumrah just conceded 2 runs in his final over and sent packing two English batsmen.
Not only has the heroic performance cemented Bumrah’s reputation as a ‘Death over specialist’, it has also kept India’s hopes alive in series which England was looking to lead by 2-0.
India had posted a total of 144/8, helped by opener KL Rahul's 71-run knock.
