It’s not often that Indian cricket team decimates a respectable opponent like the Kiwis on a cricket field the way they did on Saturday in Vishakhapattanam in India.

India beat New Zealand by 150 runs, cleaning up the entire Kiwi batting lineup for a paltry 79.

But that wasn’t the most unusual thing in the match.

There was something in the match that that had never happened in an international cricket match before.

All the Indian players were seen sporting the names of their mothers on their jerseys instead of their own.
“It’s not always that we appreciate the mother’s contribution in the way that we have to,” said Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni after the toss.

“We talk about soldiers, we get patriotic before the 26th January and 15th August. What’s important is to get up every morning and thank them for what they have been doing. In the same way, we have to appreciate the contribution of the mom,” he added.
This was a part of a joint initiative, Nayi Soch (New Thinking) by the Board of Control For Cricket in India and a private company.
“Time and again women have proved their mettle and history has been the witness of their greatness. Once a woman becomes a mother, her entire life gets dedicated towards her children. She plays an equally or rather greater role in shaping the future of her children,” said BCCI boss Anurag Thakur.

“With this initiative, our endeavor is to honour every woman,” he added.
