The young generation of Indonesian Chinese in Australia is faced with an interesting dilemma.
On the one hand, they want to integrate with the surrounding community. On the other hand, they also want to maintain an ancestral cultural identity.
Parents often worry that their children will lose the rich and diverse roots of 'Chinese' culture, due to environmental influences. Therefore, it is important for us to find a balance between cultural preservation and adaptation to the new environment
According to Mr. Lim, Indonesian Chinese citizens are a vivid example of diversity. They have a deep love of Indonesia, but also strong Chinese cultural roots.
This makes them individuals rich in identity. Although they do not understand Chinese, language is not a determinant of identity, the most important thing is to be proud of who we are.
