Designer Janet Teowarang believes that the concept of 'sustainable batik' is not only about the eco-friendly materials used but also ethical labor practices.

After receiving the Australia Awards in 2017, designer, lecturer and entrepreneur Janet Teowarang had the opportunity to visit Australia and learn more about sustainability.

Since then, she claimed to have become more aware of the importance of the concept of sustainability for her business.

“I am aware that we have to be responsible as a fashion label,” she told SBS Indonesian. “What can we do for Indonesia, not just the environment, but for its people as well.”
Since being introduced to batik artisans in Pasuruan Regency in 2018, Ms Teowarang has been committed to helping to develop the work of simple home artisans into more aesthetically pleasing batik crafts.

This works was part of FOMA 2024 Exhibit and Runway in Sydney on October.
