Romance was a huge part of why we watched The Good Wife. There was Alicia’s (Julianna Margulies) complicated love life, with the lawyer torn between her ratbag husband and a revolving door of love interests, Will (Josh Charles) – shot; Finn (Matthew Goode) – left town; and Jason (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) – to be determined.
And there were investigator Kalinda’s (Archie Panjabi) various tempestuous affairs with everyone from Cary (Matt Czuchry) to FBI agent Lana (Jill Flint) to her ex, Nick (Marc Warren). Even Alicia’s kids got in on the action from time to time. So what sort of spin-off would The Good Fight be if it didn’t feature some good ol’ fashioned lovin’?
Here are the relationships in the spotlight…

Lucca and Colin

Defence lawyers and State’s attorneys… it’s really just asking for trouble when two people from opposite sides of the legal spectrum hit it off. And hit it off Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) and Colin Morrello (Justin Bartha) do, pretty much immediately. We don’t meet Colin until episode three of The Good Fight, when, during a particularly tense case, he and Lucca engage in some heated debate/flirtation. Like many of the government’s legal representatives in The Good Wife, Colin comes across at first as a bit of a jerk, but might there be more to him that meets the eye? And will hard-edged associate Lucca let her guard down long enough to find out?
Maia and Amy

As it turns out, freshly bar qualified lawyer Maia Rindell (Rose Leslie) is also about to end up on the other side of the law from her long-term girlfriend, assistant State’s attorney Amy Breslin (Heléne Yorke). But, since we don’t see much of Amy at work, the fact that Maia is starting her career doing a fair bit of defence work doesn’t pose a problem… yet. Instead, we mostly see Amy in the context of Maia’s personal problems, specifically as Maia’s rock as she navigates life following the arrest of her father for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme. As Maia’s world crumbles, Amy is her solid and loving support, with the couple having the potential to become the emotional centre of the series.
The Good Fight airs every Wednesday at 9:30pm on SBS. Episodes are also available on after each episode airs.
