Writer and producer Marta Kauffman, who was one of the co-creators of Friends, has admitted that the show hasn't aged well.

In particular, Kauffman said that she regrets the sitcom's transphobic jokes, including an ongoing gag around Chandler's biological father, who had transitioned into a woman.

When asked by what she would do differently if producing Friends today, Kauffman admitted: “I think we didn’t have the knowledge about transgender people back then, so I’m not sure if we used the appropriate terms.
“I don’t know if I would have known those terms back then. I think that’s the biggest one.”

Kauffman added: “Every time I watch an episode, there’s something I wish I could have changed.”

She also mentioned the 'The One With Brad Pitt', an episode of the show which included a rumour that Rachel, played by Jennifer Aniston, was a 'hermaphrodite'.

“I might have not done the hermaphrodite stuff today if I had that to do over.

“It really is a period piece.”
