Former RuPaul's Drag Race winner Aquaria made history this week, becoming the first drag queen to walk the red carpet at the Met Gala.

The 23-year old, who won season 10 of the popular reality TV program, wore a black Maison Margiela dress with a white wig and sparkly clawed gloves.

She also hosted and performed at Vogue magazine's pre-Met Gala party the night before, which was held at New York City's iconic Stonewall Hotel.
Taking to social media following the event, Aquaria wrote: "Honestly I'm just humbled and emotional over my friends' support over last night's flamboyance."

She added: "I never imagined I could be so lucky to experience such a once in a lifetime moment and i wish so many other queens were there but regardless i can't be more grateful."
While Aquaria was technically the first drag queen to attend the Met Gala, she was joined on the night by fellow Drag Race winner Violet Chachki, who disappointed some fans by wearing a relatively simple black cocktail dress.

Additionally, RuPaul himself attended the gala for the first time - however, he chose to attend the event out of drag, raising some eyebrows among Drag Race fans.
