Match 62
France v Morocco
France secured their place in the World Cup final for the second successive occasion after defeating Morocco 2-0 in Al Khor.
Morocco had gone the whole tournament without conceding a goal to an opposition player but found themselves trailing inside five minutes when Theo Hernandez reacted quickest to Kylian Mbappe’s deflected strike.
That goal, coupled with an injury to captain Romain Saiss, prompted Walid Regragui to revert his Morocco line-up to a back four, which made for a more even contest.
The African nation grew in confidence in the second half but failed to find the final ball amidst the threat of France’s counter-attack, one that ultimately led to the second goal through Randal Kolo Muani.
Didier Deschamps' side’s semi-final success means they will now face Argentina in the final.
