SBS Cycling Central and will be showing a daily highlights package from the 2021 Giro d'Italia Donne, with the one-hour highlights also on SBS from 3:30pm weekends or 4pm weekdays from July 3-12.
The 10-day Giro Donne race - commonly known as the Giro Rosa - race starts on July 2 and will take riders through the mountainous regions of northern Italy including Piemonte, Lombardia. Liguria, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.
And double world champion van der Breggen has her sights firmly set on the winners podium again after taking titles in 2015, 2017 and 2020, identifying the importance of a strong team performance due to the makeup of this year's race.
“I’m really focused for this year’s edition of the Giro d’Italia Donne and looking forward to working together as a team through those 10 stages," Van der Breggen said.
"The combination of this stage schedule will make us work as a team, of which I don’t have any doubts.
"It will be my last race as a preparation for the Olympic Games and I need this 'race mode' to stay focused and alert. But first I’ll do my best to hopefully win a fourth edition of this beautiful race."
The first stage of the race features a team time trial with an uphill individual time trial awaiting the riders in stage 4, as well as two mountaintop finishes in stages 2 and 9 before the finale in Cormons.
Van der Breggen heads a strong SD Worx line-up featuring La Course champion Demi Vollering and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio who will compete for the GC, as well as Chantal van den Broek-Blaak, Elena Cecchini and Niamh Fisher-Black.
Team director Danny Stam expressed confidence in the line-up but acknowledged the difficulty of the race due to the variation of stages will call for unwavering concentration throughout.
"This edition of the Giro d’Italia Donne will be a hard one, because of the different types of stages," Stam said.
"With a TTT, ITT and 2 stages with an uphill finish, of which one is already in stage 2, we need to focus every day as big time differences in the GC can occur very quick.
"Our line-up definitely contains some riders who are able to win this race."
The contenders field is a little thinner this year due to Olympic preparations, with two-time winner Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) and 2020 runner-up Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) both opting out in favour of a more specific training regime for Tokyo.
