Richie Porte, his wife Gemma and son Luca have welcomed baby Eloise into the world.
"Bit of a weird one last couple of days," the Tasmanian said. "My wife went into labour yesterday so I've had that on the back of my mind all day that possibly by the stage finish we'd have another baby.
"My wife Gemma and I have a new baby Eloise so it's fantastic."
"Obviously I'd have loved to have been there for the birth but the Tour's the objective at the moment. It's going to be a long two weeks but I'm looking forward to getting home and meeting her."
But Porte said he is still keen on making a good showing at the Tour de France, despite the time loss yesterday and the perspective the birth of his second child brings.
"Coming into the Tour I knew that it was a possibility that I'd miss the birth. No parent wants that but I think it really puts everything in perspective.
"Yesterday was bitterly disappointing but it was a funny one because you have a child born."
"The Tour's a game. It doesn't mean I'm not motivated for the next few days or weeks even. It really weighs it all up and we've still got good spirits here and we'll fight onto Paris.
