Watch Paris-Tours from 12.30am Monday (Sunday night) on SBS On Demand and SBS VICELAND.
The Paris-Tours race was set to be Ackermann’s final race in Bora-Hansgrohe colours with the German sprinter leaving the team to link up with UAE Team Emirates on a two-year deal.
Although struggling to find form early in the season and missing out on a start at the Tour de France, Ackerman has been in fine fettle during the second half of the campaign with six wins.
It will also be Schwarzmann’s last race for Bora with the 30-year-old signing on to join Aussie sprinter Caleb Ewan’s lead-out train at Lotto Soudal next season.
“After displaying slight symptoms of a cold, Pascal Ackermann and Michael Schwarzmann had a PCR test carried out on short notice ahead of their trip to France, which returned a positive result,” a Bora-Hansgrohe statement said
“A second test confirmed the positive result for both riders. Ackermann and Schwarzmann, therefore, did not commence their trip and are now at home, following the guidelines of the relevant health authorities.”
Bora-Hansgrohe will be forced to ride with a team of six riders at Paris-Tours with Maciej Bodnar the only replacement coming in to cover the absence of the German duo.
Earlier this season, Bora-Hansgrohe was ruled out of both E3 Harelbeke and Gent-Wevelgem after a number of their riders and staff were deemed close contacts when Matt Walls tested positive for COVID-19.
