Family, friends, and supporters gathered at the makeshift memorial site for Patrick Fisher, the Aboriginal man who died in Sydney last week.
The 31-year-old was involved in a police altercation, which saw him falling from apartments on Raglan Street in Sydney's Waterloo to his death.
Supporters called for justice for Mr Fisher on Sunday as they marched the streets in Redfern.
“Too many coppers, not enough justice,” they chanted.
At the smoking ceremony people were told to have Unlcle Max throw smoke over their heads and bodies for guidance and to help set things straight for the community.
Young children lead the way through the streets followed by over 100 peaceful protesters.
It’s been alleged the police were serving a search warrant when Mr Fisher tried to escape, by climbing down to the apartments below, his but instead fell down 13 floors.

Officers had gone looking for him at a property, following a tip-off from the public regarding his whereabouts, NSW Police said last week in a statement.
Mr Fisher had two outstanding warrants for assault and stealing.
At Redfern Park, one protester warned the crowd of these incidents repeating themselves.
“What happens to one of us happens to all of us,” she said.
Yarta Yarta man, Gab Foster remembered his brother boy as the “nicest person” he knew.
He told the crowd Indigenous men don't hold a positive view of the police.
“We don’t see you as protector... We can’t help it… You chase us from when we were young kids, we’re terrified,” he said.
Mr Fisher’s uncle, echoed similar thoughts.
“Our kids hide because they know they’re gonna be chased by police.”

Uncle Lyall Munro told the crowd Patrick had come from a strong family background, as his grandfather was a renowned sportsman who even has a bridge named after him in Cherburg.
However, Mr Munro said he believed his nephew's death could have been preventable.
“Some justices have got to prevail in this White Australia,” he said.
A critical incident team from Botany Bay Local Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident which will be subject to an independent review.
His family are trying to raise funds to return with Mr Fisher's remains to Queensland and prepare for the funeral.
