The Macksville Sea Eagles' 2022 premiership prospects have received a massive boost with the signing of former Queensland, Australian and Indigenous All Stars representative Greg 'G.I' Inglis.

The 34-year-old Rugby League legend is set to take the field for his hometown side in next year's Group 2 competition.

In an announcement on social media, the Sea Eagles said they were proud to announce the marquee signing.

"Greg looks forward to continuing his Rugby League career in his hometown of Macksville. He is proud to once again play for the club as his father did back when he was growing up in the Nambucca Valley," they wrote.

"It means a lot to him and his family to be playing for Macksville once again."

"The Club and all its members would like to Welcome Greg home and we are all looking forward to the 2022 Season."

Inglis most recently played in the Super League with Warrington, scoring two tries in three games before a hamstring injury ended his English stint.

The superstar was medically retired by South Sydney in 2019.

Inglis is viewed as one of the most gifted Rugby League players of the generation - he won grand finals with South Sydney and Melbourne, where he was awarded the Clive Churchill medal in 2007; was part of the dominant Queensland side which claimed 8 straight State of Origin series wins and was awarded the Golden Boot award in 2009.

Across 16 NRL seasons, he played 265 first grade matches, 32 Origins, 39 tests, and represented the Indigenous All Stars four times.

Inglis also regularly turns out in the annual Koori Knockout for his side the Wall Street Warriors.
