The Redfern All Blacks hosted the annual event, now in its 47th-year, at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney's inner western suburbs. The knockout began in Sydney in 1971 and is widely known as a four-day cultural vehicle for Aboriginal social and cultural expression.
This year saw Kamilaroi photographer, Barbara McGrady, capture key moments from various teams on camera. The event, often described as a ‘modern-day Corroboree’, draws teams and supporters from Ballina to Bega along the coast and west to Bourke.
Hosting the Knockout is an important opportunity for communities to showcase local talent and skills on and off the field and will be held in Newcastle in 2018 after the Yowies took out top spot at the event.
