An Indian man is believed to have taken his life in Melbourne’s west.
Gurneet Singh Sahni moved to Melbourne from India in 2004. He hailed from New Delhi.
Sahni’s badly burnt body was found at his residence on the night of 12 September, 2017. He died in the following morning at Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, said a family spokesperson.
Sahni is survived by his wife and two young children, aged one and two years.
Sahni’s brother told that Gurneet was going through some financial and mental health issues.
“We are aware that he was going through a rough patch in his life. He was trying to stabilize and this happened...It is very sad to see him go,” said Mr Singh.
“He was a charming, lively, family man. He looked after us for last so many years."
The impact of Gurneet Singh's death has touched many, including the Australian Punjabi community. The family and friends are expressing their grief on social media.
Meanwhile, the community in Australia has started showing their support for the family through financial donations.
Sahni’s family friend Binoty Vij told SBS that after becoming aware of family’s financial hardship, the local community has come forward to help this young family.
“So far we have collected 170 donations through GoFundMe fundraising page,” said Ms Vij.
“The community has donated more than $6500 within two days of setting up this page.”
