Year 10 student Adithya Ashok is an Indian-Kiwi who is achieving great success in cricket at a young age.
According to , Adithya started playing cricket when he was seven years of age. Because his father had played state and district level cricket in India, he began to coach and guide Adithya from the beginning and Adithya credits his success to his father’s guidance.
Adithya has received numerous awards along the way including the best batsman from Eden Roskill Cricket Club and overall Best Player for suburbs New Lynn Cricket Club in 2014 and 2015. He was also the captain of the New Zealand team at the Junior Indoor World cup U13 in Australia in 2015.
Now he has been awarded the Bowler of the Year award from Auckland Inter Inter-Secondary School Sports Award (AKSS Premier Boys). He took 14 wickets in six games during the Term 1 One-Day Competition.
He is a right-handed batsman and a leg spin bowler.
Being a year 10 student, Adithya knows the importance of balancing his academics with his cricket. Along with practicing cricket during hard sessions under the guidance of his coach and school, he makes sure that he has enough time left to pay attention to his studies as well.
However, Adithya did express a desire to make cricket his full-time career. He wishes to play for the Black Caps on day and so is focussing on his game, both bowling and batting.
His next goal is to get selected for the New Zealand team in the U19 age category.
