Phillemon Mosby, Mayor of the Torres Strait Island Regional Council, discusses the significance of Queensland’s Truth Telling and Healing Inquiry, highlighting its impact on First Nations communities, particularly the Torres Strait Islanders.

Phillemon Mosby, Mayor of the Torres Strait Island Regional Council, has reflected on the newly launched Queensland Truth Telling and Healing Inquiry, calling it a significant moment for First Nations communities.

In a conversation with NITV Radio, Mosby emphasized the inquiry's importance in allowing Torres Strait Islanders to share their stories of injustice, particularly their experiences with discriminatory policies.

“This is not just our history but the history of Queensland and Australia,” Philemon Mosby said.

He further urged the inquiry to serve as a platform for healing and reconciliation.

For Mosby, the inquiry offers a path toward self-determination, especially for Torres Strait Islanders, who have long advocated for autonomy.

He believes the inquiry will not only highlight past struggles but also inspire future policies that reflect a more culturally informed and respectful relationship between governments and First Nations peoples.
