Antonello Nistoro, and Italian citizen holding a prospective marriage visa, tells us about the challenges he faced to obtain an exemption from the Department of Immigration in order to enter Australia and reunite with his partner.


Since the beginning of the coronavirus emergency, Australia imposed very strict controls on its borders, allowing citizens and permanent residents to return home. However, the government has also established a series of exemptions for foreign nationals who fall into certain categories, including those with strong family ties.

Antonello Nistoro falls into the latter category as a holder of a prospective marriage visa whose partner is residing in Australia. Carlo Oreglia spoke with him about the intricate path that led him to successfully obtain the exemption to travel to Australia from the Department of Immigration.
