Professor Alberto Albani graduated in geological sciences from the University of Florence and, after moving to Australia in 1961, he obtained a doctorate in science and a degree in philosophy from the University of NSW in Sydney.


Specialized in the research of coastal environmental assessments, ecology and marine geology, he has published more than 90 articles in international scientific journals, including 30 on the ecology and evolution of the Venice lagoon. Member of the Port Hacking Catchment Committee and of the Australian Marine Science Association, he participated in several international symposia and was the guest of a brainstorming meeting of the United Nations University for the development of a marine research center and Mediterranean marine parks at the university of Sassari. He currently holds the role of honorary associate professor of environmental sciences at the University of NSW.
