John Caputo arrived in Sydney in 1957 at the age of 9 with his mother, brother and sister to be reunited with his father, who emigrated years earlier to try to give a better future to the family.

John Caputo, originally from the province of Catanzaro, is the owner of a real estate agency and was the first Italian to be elected to the municipal council of Warringah. He later held the position of mayor of the Manly area for three terms.

During his career he has received many awards, both from the Australian and Italian governments, and has always played an important role within the Italian community, in particular in the organization of the Republic Day on June 2.
