Diwali, the festival of lights celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and others is celebrated in India and countries around the world.
The large Indian diaspora in United States came together to celebrate the festival at the massive Times Square in New York this year.
The Times Square event is the brainchild of Neeta Bhasin, who came to the U.S. from India 40 years ago and is president of ASB Communications.
The Times Square event was organised on October 7th with dance performances, Bollywood singers, food stalls, people dressed in traditional Indian clothes with a lighting ceremony.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a special message which was displayed at the iconic landmark.US President Donald Trump celebrated Diwali on Wednesday in the Oval Office of the White House along with senior Indian-American members of the administration, including Nikki Haley, Seema Verma and community leaders. While expressing his appreciation for Indians, the US President said he values his 'very strong' relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
