I owe much to my pappou for my love for cooking, says Sarah Di Lorenzo

Renowned clinical nutritionist and bestselling author, Sarah Di Lorenzo draws inspiration from her Greek-Australian and broader Mediterranean roots, offering over 200 recipes along with heartfelt family stories, in her latest book.


The book is titled “My Mediterranean Life- Recipes and stories”.

In an interview with SBS Greek, Ms Di Lorenzo informed us that in the book she reflects on her Greek heritage (her origins are from Kythera-Κύθηρα), sharing cherished family recipes while offering readers tips on how to adjust their shopping habits to enjoy the incredible health benefits of Mediterranean cuisine without compromising on taste.

Raised in Sydney, Sarah grew up on meals rooted in the Mediterranean diet, and these principles of wholesome eating and fresh ingredients have shaped her holistic approach to health and wellness throughout her life.

In the interview she praises and thanks her father Nick who is a psychiatrist and her mother Terry, who was a nurse. Caring for others' well-being runs in her family, she proclaims.

She also speaks at length about the influence that her grandfather had on her cooking and she dedicates the book to him. Those moments with “pappou” were a blessing she testifies. “He would have had no idea the impression he made upon me as a little girl with his Mediterranean ways, love of cooking and healthy relationship with food”, she write sin the book.

Included in the book is a most interesting forward by her father, Nicholas Cassimatis who elaborates in the family’s history which goes back to 1899 and is one of the oldest families with the Greek community in Sydney and more broadly to Australia. “Both my parents came from the Greek island of Kythera. Kythera is an untouched gem in the Aegean Sea”, he writes.

As for his daughter he stresses that “Sarah was eating Greek food even before she was born”.

The book is published by “Simon & Schuster”.
