Grief usually involves the loss of loved ones, but it is not limited to this.
People also grieve for a chronic illness, a divorce and the loss of a job.
Grieving is a normal process of adjusting to loss, which each of us experiences differently.
Useful tools for grief and loss are offered in a new seminar by the Recovery & Wellness College.
The seminar takes place next Wednesday 12 June at 2/15 Kensington Street in the Sydney suburb of Kogarah and is an initiative of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.
Speaking to SBS Greek, Communicate Educator, Antonia Kapsali, talked about the five stages that every person experiences.
"There are five stages to loss and grief. These are denial, anger, bargaining, grief and acceptance. Grief is an emotion a person experiences when they have lost someone or something that was important. Grief is also caused by changes in our lives. Change brings both loss and grief. My parents came to Australia experiencing these feelings living in a foreign country, losing their homeland. They were isolated, they were excluded," said Ms. Kapsali.
