Artists from the Cordillera Region in the Philippines travelled to Cairns for a two week residency in printmaking with First Nations artists.

Key Points
  • 'Linear Horizons' was made possible through the collaboration between NorthSite Contemporary Arts and 23 Sampaguita Artists Collective.
  • Artists from Baguio's 23 Sampaguita Artists Collective had the opportunity to spend time with the First Nations community in Cairns.
  • The project hopes this will be the beginning of a relationship and exchange between cultures including collaboration in the arts and nearby communities.

Speaking from my personal experience growing up in Baguio, there are a few similarities between the two cultures. The First Nations community in Cairns also gives great value to the role of the elders and their relationship to their land.
