Prawns, oysters and fresh fish form part of many a holiday spread throughout the country come summer – a fact that’s supported by the snaking queues entering the Sydney Fish Markets each Christmas (last year, over 110,000 people flocked there for the annual 36-hour seafood marathon).
Until recently, braving the market masses at this time of year has been reserved for the fierce and fearless but this year, a new website is giving folks the chance to enjoy market-fresh seafood sans elbows to the face. is the Sydney Fish Market’s new seafood delivery service and it’s promising same-day delivery (should you need it) right to your doorstep.
GetFish has already received an order from a patient at St Vincent’s Hospital who requested that a $50 seafood platter be delivered to their hospital bed.
The brainchild of 18-year-old Antonio Muollo who, fresh out of school, teamed with DeCosti Seafoods on the e-commerce site, GetFish is about to make fresh seafood accessible to thousands more Sydney-siders.
“I have been working at the fish market from a young age and after many years of watching the busy queues and growing trend of online services I had the idea to deliver seafood straight to customers' doors,” says Muollo, who first noticed the gap in the market, aged 15.

At the moment, customers can order online through their website but GetFish is in the process of developing an app. Most of the DeCosti range is available for order including crustaceans, sashimi and caviar - it's just live seafood such as live lobsters and crabs that are excluded.
“Our current system allows users to place orders and have them confirmed in real time,” Muollo explains. “As soon as orders are confirmed, both our office and packing staff are notified so the orders can be put into the appropriate time slots for packing."
Delivery is free for orders over $100 otherwise it’s a $10 flat fee, and they're currently delivering to a 35km radius from the Sydney Fish Markets, but looking to expand this in the lead-up to Christmas.
The new service isn’t just a game-changer for time-poor holiday entertainers but makes fresh seafood accessible to those who are less mobile; GetFish has already received an order from a patient at St Vincent’s Hospital who requested that a $50 seafood platter be delivered to their hospital bed.

The last day for customers to place their order before Christmas is 21 December, for delivery on 23 and 24 December.
