If, like me, you have been patiently waiting to be able to watch Difficult People on free-to-air TV or by streaming in Australia, then I have some fantastic news for us. The comedy hit starring Julie Klausner (who also created the show) and Billy Eichner is now on SBS VICELAND and SBS On Demand. Finally!

Produced by Amy Poehler, this dark, irreverent comedy focuses on ride-or-die besties, Julie and Billy. They are 30-something aspiring comedians living in New York City, and to make ends meet while pursuing their comedy dreams, Billy works as a waiter and Julie writes scathing recaps for television shows.

Completely self-absorbed, self-serving and wondering when they will get the break they so truly deserve, Julie and Billy are hardened New Yorkers, who don’t have time for your crap. They , and you can’t help but love them. Their rapid-fire banter and chemistry are fantastic, you will wish you could somehow be a part of this very insular friendship (even though you know it could never happen, there’s no room for a third party with these two (just ask Julie's boyfriend).

Rounding out the season 1 regulars are Julie’s very easy-going, slightly quirky boyfriend Arthur (James Urbaniak) who works for PBS and Julie’s therapist mother Marilyn (Andrea Martin) who seems more interested in her hourly rate than her patients’ problems. And Billy’s co-workers, Nate (Derrick Baskin) and Denise (Gabourey Sidibe) who are married and own the restaurant where he works, and Matthew (Cole Escola), a fellow waiter and aspiring actor who is a nemesis of sorts for Billy. Plus, there is a who’s who of New York guest stars throughout the series like Debbie Harry (yes Debbie. Harry!), Kate McKinnon, Tina Fey, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stockard Channing, Martin Short and Ken Burns, to name but a few.

Here’s a bit of a taster…

Julie Klausner on Julie Kessler:
Julie Kessler kind of exists as my id, in the sense that she gets to say and do things that I couldn’t do, or have the good judgement to not go through with.
Billy and Julie heart NYC!
- "We're New Yorkers we hate waiting!" - "Yeah we're impatient and unhappy."
Difficult People airs on SBS VICELAND Mondays from 9:20PM. Seasons 1–3 are now available at :
