Donald Glover can add another award to his mantle with Atlanta named as one of the Peabody Award winners for 2017.
The Peabody Awards have been running since 1941, today honouring storytelling on radio, television and the web. The award is one of the most prestigious in the entertainment industry because each entry is judged based on merit - commercial success, ratings, and the politics of voting members (like the Oscars) is not up for consideration.
A panel of scholars, critics and media-industry professionals selected Atlanta as one the winners from 60 finalists. "Donald Glover's enchanting series on the struggles of two young black men trying to make it in Atlanta's rap scene blends vibrant character study and rich socio-political commentary in delivering a detailed and textured exploration of a Southern city," the judges noted.
Other winners include Beyonce’s Lemonade, Better Things, Horace and Pete, and Veep.
