The Orville

Set 400 years in the future, this comedy sci-fi hybrid from creator and star Seth McFarlane follows the adventures of the USS Orville, an exploratory ship in Earth’s interstellar fleet. Facing cosmic challenges from without and within, this motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before. Season 3 kicks off with the Orville crew dealing with the interpersonal aftermath of the battle against the Kaylon. Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson and Scott Grimes also star. We love this show.

Season 3 of The Orville premieres at 8.30pm on SBS VICELAND and SBS On Demand on Friday 3 June. Episodes air weekly. Dive in now. (Seasons 1 and 2 are also streaming .)

My First Threesome

This UK documentary follows a group of first timers indulging in what is, according to the film, ‘one of our most popular sexual desires’ – having a threesome. Going outside their comfort zone will bring its own challenges, but as one participant points out, societal "shame and guilt isn’t what it used to be". We also hear from people who’ve had one and answer some FAQs: How do you find people to do it with? What’s it like seeing your partner enjoying sex with someone else? What’s the etiquette when it’s over – do you leave or stick around for a cuppa?

My First Threesome premieres at 9.55pm, Friday 3 June on SBS VICELAND. Catch up at SBS On Demand.

The Artist’s View

In this music documentary series, bands and solo artists including Sting, AC/DC, Queen, Metallica, A-ha and U2 talk about their iconic music videos and how they came about. In this episode, A-ha’s Magne Furuholmen talks about the inception of the videos for ‘Take On Me’ and ‘The Sun Always Shines on TV’. Furuholmen shares, "We were hopelessly behind. [The music video as an artform] wasn’t a big part of our psyche as a band." Director Steve Barron changed all that and ended up making many of A-ha’s now iconic music videos.

The Artist’s View: A-ha premieres at 9.25pm, Saturday 4 June on SBS VICELAND. This episode and 13 others in the series, ranging from Fatboy Slim to Queen and U2, are now .

Kim’s Convenience

Canada has given us some of our favourite sitcoms, stand-up comedians and comedic actors. Kim’s Convenience introduces us to some more. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Jean Yoon star as Appa (Dad) and Umma (Mum) Kim, who run a convenience store in suburban Toronto. Appa is proud all his hard work has paid off and his now grown children, Jung (Simu Liu) and Janet (Andrea Bang), can access a better life. He is dedicated to Kim’s Convenience, their ‘Mom and Pop’ store, and dishes out wisdom with his customers’ purchases. Umma is all about her family and the church, and meddles in such affairs as seeking out a nice Christian Korean boyfriend for the disinterested Janet. The thorn in the family’s side is the estrangement of Jung and Appa. The ensemble cast has great chemistry, and keep the laughs coming through the dramas of their everyday working lives.

Kim’s Convenience premieres at 9.25pm, Monday 6 June on SBS VICELAND, with a double episode. Episodes will be available for a limited time after they air.

This eye-opening film from American director Savanna Washington goes beyond the political to explore the impact of this restrictive nation on its people. Partly filmed in North Korea (and boasting an excellent title), the documentary talks to refugees, long-time aid workers and scholars about daily life for the general population in a country where complaints about the way things are can have dire consequences. This is an authentic, on-the-ground perspective on the struggles and humanity of a people where many are closed off from the rest of the world.

Playing Frisbee In North Korea premieres at 8.30pm, Thursday 9 June on SBS VICELAND. The documentary is also available at SBS On Demand (also ).
