What's it about?
Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater's groundbreaking film explores the joys and challenges of growing up and parenting, as we watch 7-year-old Mason (Ellar Coltrane) literally grow up on screen before our eyes. Patricia Arquette () and Linklater's longtime collaborator Ethan Hawke () play Mason's parents, and the director's own daughter Lorelei plays his sister. Boyhood offers a unique viewing experience, and it received no less than 6 Oscar nominations, resulting in a Best Supporting Actress win for Patricia Arquette.

Million Dollar Baby

What's it about?
Clint Eastwood's unforgettable film won 4 Oscars, including Best Picture and a Best Actress gong for Hilary Swank's knockout performance. Eastwood is equally superb as Frankie, a hardened boxing trainer who is taken by surprise when a woman, Maggie, asks him to train her. He is reluctant to do so (to say the least), but eventually her sheer determination and raw talent win him over. Little by little, Maggie starts to improve, and the two form a friendship.

No Country for Old Men

Starring: Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin
What's it about?
The Coen Brothers' masterful adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel earned them 4 Oscars, including Best Picture, as well as a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Javier Bardem, unforgettable as one of the best villains in cinema history. The film follows the fallout that occurs when an everyman (Josh Brolin, excellent), stumbles upon a briefcase full of cash at a crime scene, and a slow-moving psychopath (Bardem) comes looking for loot. Despite having seen it all, the laconic Sherrif in charge of the investigation (Tommy Lee Jones) is not quite prepared for the onslaught of violence he's about to face.

What's it about?
This acidic drama directed by Sam Mendes (Skyfall) and written by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) stars Kevin Spacey as a man in the midst of a full-blown mid-life crisis. In a performance which earned him a second Oscar (after ), Spacey plays writer Lester Burnham, unhappily married to real estate agent Carolyn (Annette Bening, 20th Century Women). The two lead a materially comfortable but emotionally barren life in the suburbs, with their disillusioned teenage daughter, Jane. The appearance of Jane's school friend Angela (Mena Suvari) sends Lester into a lusty spiral that inspires him to quit his job and forgets his troubles.
