With travel plans disrupted this Christmas, and many of us having to put long-awaited family reunions on hold, we need something soothing. Something gentle and kind, patient and nurturing.
That something is painting instructor, Bob Ross, and from midday Friday 25 December, SBS VICELAND will screen a marathon of The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross.
The soft and sure sound of Bob's voice evokes encouragement. He spurs us on, even when we haven't progressed much beyond finger-painting in kindergarten. He makes us feel like we can really do it, and more importantly, have fun along the way.
Bob Ross died 25 years ago, but his show has become beloved all over again. With its meditative quality, it has in lockdown and feeling highly stressed during the pandemic.
So, rinse out those spare jars under the sink and don your daggiest T-shirt as a smock. It is the perfect time to get painting. Perhaps it's an activity you can share with your loved ones virtually, if you can't be together in person.
Tune into SBS VICELAND from 12pm Friday 25 December for The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross marathon.
