Did you catch Donald Glover at the Emmy Awards - he was there hiding in plain sight as Teddy Perkins*.
One of the most memorable episodes of TV this past year was the sixth episode of Atlanta's second season 'Teddy Perkins'. called it "Surely one of the best TV episodes of the year", while Indiewire declared "This would turn out to be one of the most disquieting episodes of horror to ever grace a comedy series."
The episode centred on the supporting character Darius who has an unsettling encounter with Teddy Perkins, a man who claims to be the brother of a famous musician from whom Darius wants to buy a piano. Perkins, while not credited in the episode, was played by Atlanta creator and star Donald Glover.
Had the director of the episode, Hiro Murai, won, Glover would have taken to the stage dressed as Perkins. Of course, Glover was also nominated himself for directing a different episode of the show.
The episode, Teddy Perkins, was nominated for five Emmy Awards:
Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series
Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour) - WINNER
Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series
Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour or Less)
Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation - WINNER
