After season four’s sensational finale, Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans have been wondering just what the future holds for Detectives Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) after they were sent to prison for a potential 15-year sentence, framed by dirty cop Lt Melanie Hawkins (Gina Gershon).
The stakes are sky high, so here’s what we know so far.

“There will not be somebody running down the aisle of the courthouse saying, ‘He was innocent! He was innocent!’ or cutting to him on parole and an appeal happening,” he says.
So the detective duo are definitely in the slammer, the clink, the calaboose, the hoosegow… and it’s safe to say they’re going to be inside for the foreseeable future, especially if photos showing Jake’s bushy jail-beard are anything to go by.
“We want to do the juiciest, funniest end result of the conviction,” says Goor.
Speaking of juicy…

“Caleb is a cannibal who doesn’t feel like that defines him,” Goor. “He would rather be defined by his passion, which is woodworking.”
Tim Meadows (Son of Zorn), who starred with Samberg in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, plays the man of many tastes. Together with Jake, he could face some hairy times when they’re taken out of protective custody.
“He cares about Jake, but they are put into a bind because they are both thrown into general population,” Goor EW. “So he also has to look out for himself a bit.”
Details on how Rosa is faring are scarce, but we do know that, unsurprisingly, she’s enjoying some downtime in solitary confinement at a women’s prison. And if she does end up mingling with the other inmates, we’re betting she’ll do just fine. As office manager Gina (Chelsea Peretti) says, “If Rosa had a twin, she would have eaten her in the womb.”

A good thing, then, that Jake has some possible prison yard protection in erratic crime king pin Romero, played by Lou Diamond Phillips in what looks to be a brilliant piece of casting. But life in the slammer comes with its quid pro quos.
Goor , "[Jake] finds himself between a rock and a hard place. The rock is Romero and the hard place is the warden."

The comedy continues to roll out its cavalcade of guest stars with Ryan Phillippe returning as Gina’s baby daddy, Gershon as the dastardly Hawkins and other undisclosed favourites due to make appearances.
Keeping with tradition, the Halloween heist episode will be a season highlight – “the best Halloween we’ve ever had,” Goor – and expect more drug-addled 1980s flashbacks featuring veteran detectives Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) and Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller).
And this season marks a special milestone, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s 99th episode.
“I want Jake to go with Terry to Japan to shake down some Yakuza,” Goor of his ultimate 99th celebration. “But I’ve been told that that is unrealistic, budget-wise.”
Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs Wednesdays at 8pm on SBS VICELAND. Watch the first episode at SBS On Demand:
