The Sims 4 is ramping up for Pride Month, announcing a new collaboration with the project and introducing gender neutral bathroom options.
The Pride Month additions, which include Pride-themed outfits for Sims characters to wear, were announced at the EA Play event over the weekend, with the video game company unveiling their working relationship with LGBTIQ+ youth organisation It Gets Better.
Taking to social media, LGBTIQ+ gamers were quick to celebrate the developments.
"The Sims franchise has really been for the LGBTIQ+ folk forever," one fan tweeted.
"They've always had same-sex marriage, same-sex adoption, you can have trans sims in the Sims 4, and the new update has gender neutral public bathrooms and pride gear with shirts that say 'it gets better' we stan."
However, others suggested ways the gaming giant could improve The Sims 4 even further - including calls for gender to be represented in different ways than the appearance of a character's chest.
"I'm hoping this isn't going to be cosmetic only," one gamer tweeted.
"We need to see they/them pronouns for the sims. The gender options patch & gender neutral bathroom doors are great first steps, but there's more to get done!!"
