Australian actor Ruby Rose has taken to social media to confirm that her Batwoman series has been picked up for a full season by the CW network.

The role, which debuted on CW's Elseworlds series in December, makes Rose the first queer lead of a superhero film or TV series.

Sharing a 20-second teaser of the show on her Instagram, Rose wrote: "I suddenly woke at 4am… and came to discover Batwoman is coming to the CW in Fall!!!"

She added: "I can’t thank everyone involved enough, and will not attempt to, until I properly wake up."
The move is another step in the right direction for CW, who last year cast transgender activist and actress Nicole Maines to play trans character Nia Nal on the Supergirl series.

According to , the show’s producers worked with DC Comics and LGBTIQ+ media advocacy organisation GLAAD to “show the whole spectrum of humanity, and that everyone can be a hero."

Here's hoping for more where that came from!
