Lady Gaga has opened up about her love for the LGBTIQ+ community, claiming that their support was behind much of her success.
Gaga made the comments while promoting her upcoming film, A Star Is Born, a remake of the 1976 American musical drama starring Barbra Streisand.
“I make a joke sometimes, behind every female icon is a gay man,” she said in an interview with .
She added: “I really wouldn’t be here without the gay community, what they have taught me about love and acceptance and bravery.”
Gaga's love affair with queer culture was also made apparent in the film, which was directed by and co-stars Bradley Cooper.
According to Vanity Fair, once Gaga had successfully auditioned for the role of Ally, Cooper decided to change their characters' meeting place to a gay bar during a drag show.
The edit was made after Gaga told Cooper a number of stories about performing in small gay venues at the start of her career.
