Kmart is winning new fans with these super cute same-sex family doll sets

Children growing up with same-sex parents are starting to see themselves reflected on retail store shelves, with Kmart introducing a series of inclusive family doll sets.

The $15 online-exclusive doll sets include one family with opposite-sex parents, one with two dads, and one with two mums.

All three sets include two children and a dog.

However, according to the retail giant's website, shoppers don't get to choose which family they receive at checkout.

“We cannot guarantee which design you will receive as products are selected at random for online orders,” the product page warns.
According to , the doll sets are already selling out around Australia, with many store locations claiming to be out of stock. 

Kmart shoppers were quick to celebrate the product on social media.

"Great for kids to see play sets that have families that look like theirs," one shopper .

"This is just so wrong," another joked. "Why doesn’t the female couple have 3 cats?!"

However, other social media users , expressing their hope that Kmart would diversify the line even further.

As was to be expected, several conservative Kmart shoppers were whipped into a bit of a tizzy by the news, threatening to boycott the retail chain.


"Dear it is greatly concerning that you are now promoting the SSM [same-sex marriage] ideology to children 3+," one . "I won’t be doing future dealings with any of your stores until you remove these dolls off the shelves."

Still, the overwhelming response was one of joy, with one Facebook user writing: "I'm amazed that I'm seeing this in my lifetime."
