Julie Andrews is the host of a new Netflix original series that teaches children about the performing arts with the help of celebrity guests from Hollywood and Broadway.
Julie’s Greenroom features the iconic musical legend as the mentor of a class of diverse puppets—built by the Jim Henson Company—including one that is seemingly gender neutral.
Riley is an androgynous puppet with red hair and glasses and “loves all the technical backstage stuff” according to a article.Emma Walton Hamilton—Andrews’ daughter and co-creator of the show—says of Riley: “If pressed, we’d say that she’s a girl, but maybe not forever. We wanted to be as diverse as possible.”
