Actor Rick Cosnett, best known for the roles of Eddie Thawne on The Flash and Wes Maxfield in The Vampire Diaries, has come out as gay.

Cosnett shared the news via a video on Instagram, in which he told his 250,000 followers that he was trying to live his truth.

“Hi everyone,” he says in the video.

“Dramatic pause. Um, I’m gay and I just wanted everyone to know because I’ve made a promise to myself to live my truth every day and sometimes that is a really hard thing to do when you have all these subconscious things that you don’t even know about from childhood and society and from just life."

He added: "There you go. I’m sure most of you probably knew anyway. And … um yeah. That’s actually all I wanted to say."
Fans soon began rallying around the actor, sending their messages of congratulations over social media.

"I'm incredibly happy for Rick Cosnett!" One fan tweeted.

"In the times in which we live, it can be harrowing to be yourself freely due to the ways in which people suck when it is literally none of their concern. I hope he inspires a whole host of others to be able to do the same!"

Another wrote: "I know I’m late but I just wanna say how happy I am Rick Cosnett is living his truth. I adored him on The Flash. A total dreamboat."
