Comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has opened up about being sexually assaulted in her teens, throwing her weight behind Christine Blasey Ford's testimony against Brett Kavanaugh.
Speaking to actress Busy Philipps about the #MeToo movement last week, DeGeneres said that she had survived a sexual assault when she was only 15.
“I was 15 and I had something happen to me,” she said.
“When I watched Dr. Ford — anyone who has had something happen to them, you just get so angry when someone doesn’t believe you or says, ‘Why did you wait so long?’.
“It’s because we’re girls and we’re taught not to say anything and go along with it.”
She continued: "People, first of all, need to teach...children to speak up and don't ever keep something in. Don't ever be ashamed and think that it's your problem and your fault.
"Because it's never your fault. You're a child."
"I had to kick a window out and escape and sleep in a hospital all night long," DeGeneres said in an interview with Allure.
"It's important for teenage girls out there to hear that there are different ways to say no. And if it ever happens to them, they should tell someone right away."
