Osc-hers, anyone?

Anyone who uses social media knows that Bette Midler isn't one to mince her words.

The Hollywood legend has been forced to more than once and last week used her platform to criticise Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison's , calling the PM a "f***wit".

However, we reckon she's right on the money this time, with the two-time Academy Award nominee taking aim at this year's list of Oscar nominees - particularly the Best Director category, which includes no female directors.

"No women received noms for Best Director Oscar even though many exceptional films were directed by women this year," Midler tweeted.

That's when she posed a question to her followers: do the women of Hollywood deserve their very own version of the night of nights?
"Maybe we just get our own show called the Osc-hers?" She mused.

"I guarantee it will be way better organised and way more entertaining!"

Given the response to this year's nominees, we think Midler might just be onto something.

Actress Florence Pugh, who plays Amy March in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women, voiced her frustration at Gerwig missing out on a Best Director nomination.

"She made a film about women working and their relationship with money and their relationship with working in a man’s world," Pugh pointed out.

"That’s literally what Little Women is about.”

Actress, writer and director Issa Rae also expressed her feelings on the matter, saying "congratulations to all those men" after co-announcing the list of nominees.
