Long live the Queen!

RuPaul has been immortalised in the latest issue of US Vogue, captured in a series of stunning photographs by Annie Leibovitz which showcase the trailblazer both in and out of drag.

The series of photos accompany an intimate interview with the creator of RuPaul's Drag Race.

"My job, our job as drag queens, has always been to remind you that this outfit you’re wearing, or this label you put on yourself, is just a label," Ru said in the interview, which also touched on his latest Netflix project, upcoming daytime talk show, and open marriage.
He continued: "Drag queens are the shamans or the witch doctors or even the court jesters. To remind you what is really real."

While the shoot was clearly inspired by Queen Elizabeth I, Leibovitz is no stranger to shooting royalty - in 2007 she took official portraits of Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, famously asking reigning monarch to remove her tiara for the photo.

RuPaul is currently in the UK shooting the first local edition of Drag Race, which is set to screen on the BBC later this year.
