As beloved animated Netflix series BoJack Horseman wraps up its sixth and final season, one of the show's voice actors, Aaron Paul, has reflected on the significance of the show.
Paul, best known for playing Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad, spoke to about how it felt to represent the asexual community with his character, Todd Chavez - one of few examples of a multi-faceted asexual character on TV.
While he said he would miss working on the show, Paul revealed that he has felt “so proud to represent” the asexual community.
“So many people have been coming up to me saying, ‘I didn’t know what I was. You have given me a community that I didn’t even know existed,’ which is just so heartbreaking, but also so beautiful, you know?"
He added: "I think it’s so nice to have a character on TV - especially on a show so powerful like BoJack - that represents a community that should be represented.
“It’s sad to say goodbye, but we know that we’re a part of something incredibly special,” Paul continued. “And Netflix gave us a beautiful home for six years. People love what we’re doing.”
Social media users have praised the BoJack's portrayal of asexuality, with many explaining that Paul's character helped them realise their own asexual identity.
"I hope you guys know how much it means to me and the ace community to have a sweet ace character like Todd!", one viewer tweeted.
"It‘s incredible to be seen as normal and human!"
Another reflected on the time they met Paul, telling him face-to-face that Todd had impacted them.
"I’m slowing working on the article about when I got to tell Aaron Paul to his face that his role on BoJack Horseman helped me realise that I’m and changed my life."
