Landale 'is a different one' - Goulding on what makes star teammate unique

Boomer and NBL star Chris Goulding opened up on why his Melbourne United teammate Jock Landale is so unique during the latest episode of SBS series – TAB Courtside 1v1.

WATCH TAB Courtside 1v1 on SBS with Megan Hustwaite weekly on Thursday from 7:00pm (AEDT) via SBS Sport Facebook, or catch up via SBS On Demand.

Goulding, 32, has played with some incredible players for club and country across his 15-year professional career in which he was been NBL champion twice, grand final MVP, NBL scoring champion and commonwealth Games gold medalist.

But current United teammate Landale stands out, and Goulding discussed why with Megan Hustwaite on Courtside 1v1.

"[Landale] has been great," sharpshooter Goulding said. "His impact is... He's at such a high level."

"He's a high level player and we see that every night, because every single time we go out on the floor, a team double-teams him.

"He doesn't get single coverage in the post once.

"Although that may be frustrating for him, and I'm sure it is, what that does is allow us to create some advantages when the ball gets kicked out of there.

"And he still manages to get 15-20 points, 10 rebounds all while being double-teamed, so that tells you how much of a high level player he is.
Goulding revealed he thinks Landale can get even better when discussing his style of play.

"And just the that paint presence ... We've had paint presences in the past couple of years but this is a different one," Goulding explained.

"He's a mix between like a new school shooting big but he's still got that old school post up seal, throw it down low part to his game as well.

"So a really nice mix for us, his impact's been great.

"I think he can - and I think he would say this as well - I think he can play better. That's the scary part.

"There are so many areas where we haven't made his life as easy as it could be on the court, so we're looking forward to doing that in the back end of the season."

In the full interview with Hustwaite, Goulding opens up on the building rivalry with South East Melbourne Phoenix, how a Melbourne move kickstarted his career, and his new project which he hopes sets him up for life after basketball.
The interview is part of an SBS series - TAB Courtside 1v1, which gives fans a chance to get to know more about the unique personalities from the NBA, WNBA, NBL and WNBL, which help shape basketball in Australia.

Hustwaite, who has been covering all levels of Australian basketball for the past 13 years as a reporter, commentator and journalist, will helm the weekly show - every Thursday at 7 pm (AEDT) via SBS Sport Facebook - where she interviews stars of the past, present and future.
