The apprentice faces off against the master as Aussie star Josh GIddey and his Oklahoma City Thunder travel to Brooklyn to go head to head with Australian Basketball legend Patty Mills and his Nets side in our next game on January 14 (12:30 pm - 3:00 pm AEDT). Find all the details of the .
Giddey has hit the ground running in his rookie NBA season, posting absurd stat-lines on a young Thunder team in the middle of a complete rebuild after the departure of all-stars Kevin Durant, Paul George, Chris Paul, James Harden and Russell Westbrook over the past five years.
The 6th overall pick became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double in early January as he posted 17 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists in a close loss to the Dallas Mavericks, then did it again the very next game with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 15 assists against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
After taking out Western Conference rookie of the month honours in December, Giddey continues to go from strength to strength against the world's best and in the process giving Aussie fans plenty to cheer about.
But Giddey and the Thunder will face a stiff test in their next game up, as they take on a powerhouse of the NBA in the Brooklyn Nets who have their own Aussie weapon in Patty Mills who has been on fire this season.
With All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving being absent until recently due to Covid-19 protocols, Mills filled the void and more for the Nets, highlighted by a career-high 34 points in a Christmas Day victory on the road against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Boomers star has quickly become a key member of the Nets team in his first season in Brooklyn delivering as a deadeye three-point shooter, currently averaging 42.8% from the field and and 41.8% from behind the arc.
His contributions have lessened as of late due to Irving's return for road games, but with Kevin Durant and James Harden on your team, there's no need to do anything other than your role and Mills does it to a T and has been since he entered the NBA.
Tomorrow's matchup is a fantastic advert for the growth of basketball in Australia - with a veteran who has done it all internationally for club and country on one side, up against a young star in the making who may just surpass him when all is said and done.
Don't miss it.
