'Motivated' Porte dreaming of Tour de France podium finish

Richie Porte revealed it would be "an absolute dream" to stand on the podium following the final week of the 2020 Tour de France.

The Trek-Segafredo rider looked impressive during his third-placed finish on Stage 15 and has since moved up to sixth in the overall rankings.

At 35 years old, the Australian knows there’s still plenty of work to be done, as he aims for a podium finish.

“I’m not going to lie, the last couple of mountaintop finishes, when you’re one of the stronger guys on the course, it does enter your mind that the podium is a possibility,” Porte told Cycling Central’s David Mckenzie and Christophe Mallet.

“There’s just so much to get through … I’m probably more concerned about the things you can’t really control rather than cracking on one of the climbs.
“But, for me, at 35, it would be an absolute dream to be up there on the podium.

“I’m motivated. You don’t miss the birth of your child if you’re not here to at least make some sort of an impact.

“At the moment, I’m just trying to take it one day at a time and do my best.”
The Tour de France will return for Stage 16 tonight LIVE, FREE and EXCLUSIVE at 8:55pm (AEST) tonight, via the SBS ŠKODA Tour Tracker, and at 9:30pm (AEST) on SBS VICELAND and SBS On Demand.
