Famous for its steep short bergs on narrow country roads across the hilly Limburg region of the Netherlands, the Amstel Gold Race is an important and prestigious race that marks the start of the Ardennes classics.
The 252.8km Men’s Amstel Gold Race starts from the town of Maastricht and ends in Valkenburg, taking in 34 climbs.
It will be the more traditional circuit for the ninth edition of the women's race, with the race distance increasing to 155.8km over a course which includes five ascents of the Cauberg, and four climbs of Geulhemmerberg and four trips up Bemelerberg.
The Cauberg comes as the set-piece finale, with the flat run to the finish of 1.8 kilometres often an interesting tactical battle depending on group composition.
